This article deals with the political contributions of the Spanish philosopher María Zambrano during her youth (1928-1939) at the dawn of the Second Spanish Republic and the subsequent Civil War. We suggest her views may be within the theoretical realm of liberal conservatism. With this aim, we engage with her criticisms of rationalism and idealism as disciplines incapable of adequately dealing with the political community understood as an organic reality, hardly reducible to a general plan. The analysis of this rejection deals with its two expressions: as a critique of the theoretical impossibility of rationalism to obtain a complete picture of reality, and as radical distrust regarding the practical application of ideal schemes.
