 SciELO

SciELO Mexico is part of the regional network SciELO, consisting of 15 scholarly journal collections: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela. SciELO Mexico is developed by the General Directorate for Libraries (DGB) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).

During 2007 and 2008, the Information Center for Decisions in Public Health (CENIDSP) of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP) collaborated in the development of SciELO Mexico by means of the selection of publications and financing for the electronic edition of biomedical journals. Likewise, from 2006 to 2008 SciELO Mexico received sponsorship from the UNAM's Program for the development of projects on information technology and computing (Macroproyecto "Tecnologías para la Universidad de la Información y la Computación (MTUIC)".

At present, SciELO Mexico receives financing from the National Council on Science and Technology (CONACYT) with the intention of stimulating the national and international diffusion of the journals included in the Index of Mexican Journals of Scientific and Technological Research, as well as to contribute to the evaluation of their impact factor by means of reliable bibliometric indicators.

SciELO portal (www.scielo.org) allows users to perform simultaneous searches in all or in just one of the existing collections.

The Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) is an electronic library of open access full-text scientific journals formed by a network of national collections.

The SciELO project initiated in 1997 from a joint initiative between FAPESP (The State of São Paulo Research Foundation) and BIREME (Latin-American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information) to develop a common methodology for the preparation, storage, dissemination and evaluation of scientific literature in electronic format. Since 2002, the Project is also supported by Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

 help

SciELO interface allows searching the collection through two access points:

Serials. Through alphabetic lists of titles, subjects, or an advanced search option using the main elements of the journal: words in title, subject, publisher and place of publication.

Articles. It provides access to the full-text of the documents through an index of authors, subjects (keywords), or an advanced search option that allows combining the main elements of the documents: words in title, author, subject, abstract and year of publication.

The interface also offers the possibility of performing searches by truncation of terms.

The results list allow users to access the documents through the abstracts (in Spanish and English) and from the link to the full-text in HTML format, from where it is possible to use different functionalities: download in PDF format, references, models for citing the document, automatic translation to other languages and the send-to-email feature, among others.
