Abstract

This article analyzes the symbolic discourse on incest, and its prohibition, in the work of Louis Malle -the French film producer (1932-1995)- from the framework of two feature films: Murmur of the Heart (Le Souffle au Coeur), the plot of the film centers on the incestuous, conscious and consensual relationship between mother and child; and Damage, which portrays the relationship between a married man and his son’s girlfriend.
