Abstract

PINEDA, Luis; CASTRO, José Wilfredo  and  AGUIRRE, Christian. First record of Psarocolius montezuma (Passeriformes: Icteridae) in El Salvador. Huitzil [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, e514.  Epub Mar 11, 2019. ISSN 1870-7459.  https://doi.org/10.28947/hrmo.2019.20.2.404.

The Montezuma Oropendola (Psarocolius montezuma) is distributed from southeastern Mexico through Central America, with the exception of El Salvador. We recorded the species for the first time in the country, presenting photographic documentation and audio recordings of two kinds of vocalizations. We made the observation in the buffer zone of the Los Cóbanos complex Natural Protected Area (Acajutla, Sonsonate, El Salvador), located in the Central American coastal marine zone of the Pacific Ocean. In addition, we include information on the interaction of this species with other bird species.

Keywords : Raparian forest; Central America; geographical distribution; Los Cóbanos; Montezuma Oropendola; buffer zone.
