Abstract

AGUAYO, Fernando. The photographs of William Henry Jackson and the city of San Luis Potosí in 1891. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.19, pp.177-206.  Epub Nov 19, 2020. ISSN 2007-8846.  https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl9192019935.

Aiming to demonstrate the relevance of the study of the creation processes of photographic documents for the research of social processes, photo manufacturing is analyzed with emphasis on the indexical information of these. The illustrative use of the images is also questioned and their use as a historical source is suggested. For these reasons, the contextualization and incorporation methodologies of photographic materials are referred to in the investigation of urban themes of the 19th century. Thus, the scientific use of photographic documents for the study of urban topics is confirmed, specific to the city of San Luis Potosí.
