Abstract

This article advance some of the results of the research "Characteristics of Indigenous People in Mexico's Cities". Its objective is to study the demographic characteristics, living conditions, "cultural persistence" and identity of the mazahuas, otomies, triquis, mayas and zapotecos in three different urban settings: the metropolis, Mexico City; the industrial corridor, Minatitlan Veracruz; and Cancun Q.Roo a tourist oriented city. In particular, this article covers themes related to human rights issues, such as: exclusion, inequality, perception of discrimination, basic rights, violence and criminality, tolerance and traditions.
