Abstract

CAMPOS, Alberto. The end of medicine. Part 3. The patient’s perspective, the unwelcome disease and the cure-heal duality. Cir. gen [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.4, pp.322-332.  Epub Nov 27, 2020. ISSN 1405-0099.

This work discusses the end of medicine from the patient’s perspective facing disease. Disease and suffering are discussed as conflicts of interest and codependence between strangers, doctor and patient. The concept ‘scientific medicine’ as an imitation of a dystopian model ill-suited to the social reality of this country, and the curing-healing duality as a conflict of subjectivities incompatible with this model are analyzed. Finally, the confusion of ends and the role of the physician before the patient’s suffering are discussed.

Keywords : End of medicine; doctor-patient relationship; philosophy of medicine; suffering; cure; heal.
