Abstract

RODRIGUEZ DE LA VEGA, Ricardo A.  and  GONZALEZ TORRES, Iris M.. The Socioeconomic Diversity as Measure of Human Development. Inv. Econ [online]. 2000, vol.60, n.233, pp.13-33. ISSN 0185-1667.

The characteristics of the indices and methodologies of measurement of human development applied until the present are analyzed. As compensation it is argued the introduction of the "socioeconomic niche" concept, for taking the diversity of the same ones as measure of human development. The theoretical principles discussed provide a new approach, that unifies Social and Natural Sciences, so much from the conceptual as methodological point of view, offering a theoretical and practical option for the administration and evaluation linked to the sustainability and improvement of human development.
