Abstract

SANCHEZ HERNANDEZ, Gabriela. Una aproximación antropológica a la comprensión de la eficacia realizativa de prácticas propiciatorias entre católicos de sectores medios en el Distrito Federal, México. Cuicuilco [online]. 2011, vol.18, n.50, pp.119-143. ISSN 0185-1659.

Within the anthropology of religion, the study of what have been called magical-religious practices is large and very diverse. It is a prolific and multivalent issue until today; it shows theoretical and methodological complexities that are challenging for anthropologists. This work breaks away from this tradition and proposes the concept of propitiatory practices which from its heuristic definition raises broader scope than the one indicated. The study also seeks to understand from an anthropological perspective the force and the roots of many beliefs and propitiatory practices which takes place in the daily lives of professional middle class Catholics living in the Federal District, Mexico.

Keywords : propitiatory practices; popular religion; urban middle class; performative efficacy.
