Abstract

ULLOA, Astrid. Environmental and Extractive Dynamics in the 21 st Century: Is it the Epoch of Anthropocene or Capitalocene in Latin America?. Desacatos [online]. 2017, n.54, pp.58-73. ISSN 2448-5144.

In Latin America current analysis of the environmental changes and climate change focus on the effects and socio-territorial conflicts and its articulation with the conquest and colonization. The pertinence of current perspectives of the Anthropocene and Capitalocene will be analyzed highlighting the implications of Anthropocenic turn related to geopolitics of knowledge, territorial differentiation, displacement of extractivism, and lack of recognition of other ontologies and epistemologies. I will also analyze the scope of the notion of Capitalocene and its articulation to processes of valuation and appropriation of natures and territories. I present reconfigurations and proposals that respond to local, cultural and territorial perspectives to face climate change and extractivisms, in dialogue with Antropocene and Capitalocene.

Keywords : Anthropocene; Capitalocene; extractivism; cultural perspectives; geopolitics of knowledge.
