Abstract

PEREDO MERLO, María Alicia  and  GONZALEZ TORRE, Rosa Alicia. Los jóvenes y sus lecturas. Una temática común entre las revistas y los libros que eligen. RMIE [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.33, pp.635-655. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article is based on research on the evaluation of reading. In this case, we present only the results of the reading preferences of Mexican migrants enrolled in high school in Laredo, Texas, the United States, compared with the preferences of Mexican high school students in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The methodology is based on thematic interviews, to discover the reasons young people select certain readings. Data from 120 participants show the magazines and books chosen by both sample groups, and reveal the differences between the magazines they read: scientific material or information on the world of entertainment. On the other hand, the groups have obvious similarities in the books they choose. The conclusion points to the existence of a common theme that motivates these readers.

Keywords : reading habits; young people; books; magazines; the United States; Mexico.
