Abstract

GUTIERREZ GONZALEZ, María Eugenia. La personificación del tiempo entre los mayas. Estud. cult. maya [online]. 2004, vol.25, pp.17-32. ISSN 0185-2574.

The intention of systematize the passing of time represented an important role in maya philosophy. The analysis of Maya Classic inscriptions makes it possible to identify a conception where time has been personified in anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures that represent periods and deities. In the scriptural and mathematical combination characteristic of ancient maya texts it is possible "to see" the time. The Classic personification of days, months and years is a cultural feature that was preserved in later periods. An approach to this conception may contribute to understand the government or sacred ways as places of tics and men coexistence, among other aspects.
