Abstract

ESTRADA GARCIA, María Concepción et al. Towards an inclusive language without sexism? Analysis of the gender perspective in the campaign of candidate Delfina Gómez on Twitter. Rev. panam. comun. [online]. 2023, vol.5, n.2, pp.14-34.  Epub Feb 19, 2024. ISSN 2683-2208.  https://doi.org/10.21555/rpc.v5i2.2994.

The 2023 election in the State of Mexico presented a scenario never before witnessed, as through party coalitions, Alejandra del Moral and Delfina Gómez competed for the governorship; in this electoral process, Gómez emerged victorious. In the current research, we examine the Twitter (now X) posts of Delfina Gómez to determine the treatment regarding gender perspective. It is relevant to note that the candidate uses inclusive language without sexism through which she structures her publications by giving visibility to women as a fundamental part of an electoral process. However, she also uses the encompassing generic masculine in her speech, which marks deep-rooted heteropatriarchal roots. Fundamental categories are provided to analyze the posts from a quantitative and qualitative perspective through content analysis, using a conceptual tool called gender perspective.

Keywords : Perspectiva de género, lenguaje incluyente y sin sexismo, género gramatical, elecciones; campañas electorales, redes sociodigitales, Twitter.
