Abstract
POY, Santiago. Social Policies and Changes in the Household Reproductive Balance in Argentina. Estud. sociol [online]. 2021, vol.39, n.116, pp.433-466. Epub Sep 06, 2021. ISSN 2448-6442. https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2021v39n116.1869.
The article addresses the role of social policy in the regulation of household socio-economic reproduction. Adopting both a structuralist approach to socioeconomic inequality and a political economy perspective on state social intervention, the article analyzes and compares the coverage and economic effects of social policy instruments on the reproductive balance of households with different economic positions in Argentina between 2003 and 2014. Using a quantitative design based on microdata from the Permanent Household Survey, the article shows that social policy instruments increased their importance in the reproductive balance of households whose labor force was engaged in the informal sector or precarious employment, but that given the prevailing employment conditions, they did not suffice to exclude them from the risk of inadequate reproduction.
