Pedro Henríquez Ureña (1884-1946), a member of a very prominent family in the Dominican Republic political and intellectual sphere, constitutes a reference figure to delve into the cultural ties within the Latin American elite in the 20th century. It is worth noting the influence that Henríquez Ureña received from Spanish intellectuals such as Menéndez Pelayo, Azorín and Rafael Altamira, as well as his influence on other thinkers, among whom were Alfonso Reyes and José Vasconcelos, in their shared endeavor to renew Hispanic-American historical and literary criticism.
