Abstract

AVALOS, Antonio. Estimación del impacto económico de los Juegos Panamericanos Guadalajara 2011: análisis de insumo-producto. EconoQuantum [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.1-2, pp.35-60. ISSN 2007-9869.

Using an input-output analysis, the study estimates the short run economic impact that the Pan American Games will produce in the economy of the state of Jalisco in 2011. The study applies the RAS method to update and estimate the state input-output matrix from the national input-output matrix. Findings show that the accumulated impact of the investment in the Games on the GDP of the state since 2007 is of almost 5 por ciento, while the number of total jobs generated in 2011 will reach near 50,000. The estimates also show that the construction and commerce will experience substantial benefits. It is concluded that the investment in the event has contributed to smooth out the effects of the world recession and it has contributed to the economic recovery of Jalisco.
