Abstract
CASTANEDA SABIDO, Alejandro. Determinantes de las tarifas de interconexión: Un estudio a nivel internacional. EconoQuantum [online]. 2011, vol.7, n.2, pp.37-54. ISSN 2007-9869.
Good interconnection conditions between telecommunications networks are a necessary condition to achieve a high level of competition among networks. Thus, it is important to study what the determinants of interconnection tariffs are, because the inferences that can be achieved through this study can be used to design policies that aim at an improvement in the interconnection tariffs (and in the conditions of interconnection in general). This paper uses regression analysis and a sample of fifteen countries to study the determinants of interconnection tariffs. We find results that indicate that those countries with autonomy in its regulatory entities, unbundled network schemes and the use of LRIC methodologies to calculate access prices have on average lower interconnection rates. Also, those countries with higher GDP per capita have lower interconnection rates. There is evidence of economies of scale in fixed services. We conclude with policy recommendations that emerge from the results.
