MORENO ESPARZA, Hortensia. El boxeo como tecnología de la masculinidad. La ventana [online]. 2011, vol.4, n.33, pp.152-196. ISSN 1405-9436.

The culture of boxing has produced a teaching system which expands through time and space with remarkable regularity. It reproduces a series of technologies of the self (Foucault), and at the same time is inscribed in a gendered symbolic order which gives hierarchical values and places to subjects; therefore, we argue that boxing is a technology of gender (De Lauretis). The field research presented in this paper allows us to see how the learning of boxing integrates the fighters into a complex social structure, isolated and defended as an exclusive preserve of masculinity in a way of working that incorporates several dimensions of body, gender and education.

Keywords : Body; gender technologies; sport; masculinity; education.
