The article presents an analysis of the structure of household wealth and income during the 90's in the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, Mexico. Following the methodology to measure household wealth used by Wolff, Greenwood, Kesslere y Masson, and Nolan, among others, here, we consider for the first time an empirical research with data on household wealth for Monterrey, Mexico. We believe that this type of inquiry represents an unusual approach for perceiving the issue of poverty from a different standpoint. With data from 1994 and 1998 for Monterrey and a national survey (ENIGH) for the whole country, we analyze the composition of household wealth for Monterrey. We found that the main form of household wealth hold by families is the house. By estimating the Gini coefficient we found that the distribution of household wealth is more unequal than the distribution of household income.
