Abstract

BUENDIA ESPINOSA, Angélica; ACOSTA OCHOA, Abril  and  GIL ANTON, Manuel. In Search of a Face. (In)visible, but Always Present. RMIE [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.80, pp.15-41. ISSN 1405-6666.

This article analyzes the employment conditions of professors in Mexican universities, both public and private. Using qualitative methodology, we have attempted to answer how part-time professors perceive their employment conditions. Part-time professors have been the subject of very little research in Mexico. Therefore, the first section gives a synthesis of the current situation of professors in higher education. We then explain the development of higher education in relation to the evolution of the academic market, and present an interpretative framework of teachers’ employment conditions, in which the lack of job security is a constant. The article concludes with the results, which lead to a proposed typology and research agenda for future studies of the topic.

Keywords : university professors; university teaching; employment conditions; Mexico.
