Abstract
CANON NINO, Jorge Armando and RAMIREZ DIAZ, Catalina. The center and periphery concept to understand our current liquid reality. Rev. Mex. Sociol [online]. 2022, vol.84, n.2, pp.323-360. Epub May 09, 2022. ISSN 2594-0651. https://doi.org/10.22201/iis.01882503p.2022.2.60280.
This article proposes an updated epistemological and methodological framework to understand how the structural and day-to-day social dimensions are articulated in the center-periphery notion at different levels (worldwide, national, regional, and local) of the geopolitical configuration. This article presents a historical description, both economic and sociological, of the variations of hegemonic discourses on efficiency, race, and development as articulating axes. Similarly, by means of a graphic representation, it proposes several analytical categories to understand how the notion of center-periphery is nowadays materialized and how the current (liquid) structural dimension should be studied from a situated perspective.
Keywords : center-periphery; structural analysis; social space; hegemonic discourse; peripheral progressivism; development sociology.
