WISNIAK, Jaime. Edme Hippolyte Marié-Davy. Contribution to electrochemistry. Educ. quím [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.3, pp.134-144.  Epub Jan 13, 2021. ISSN 0187-893X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fq.18708404e.2020.3.71063.

Edme Hippolyte Marié-Davy (1820-1893) was a French physician and scientist that carried basic and practical studies on many theoretical and experimental aspects of electricity, batteries, physiology, and meteorology. Here we describe his work on electrochemistry, which led to the development of the mercury bisulfate battery that carries his name and that at a certain time was used extensively by the French telegraph and post service, as well as in the Crimean war.

Keywords : electricity; electromotive force; batteries; mercury bisulfate.
