Abstract

GOMES PEREZ, Jesús Francisco. Moira and Number in the Iliad: Sequentiality, Symmetry and Asymmetry when Representating Fate. Nova tellus [online]. 2024, vol.42, n.2, pp.69-94.  Epub Nov 25, 2024. ISSN 0185-3058.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.nt.2024.42.2/000s22x0q114.

Destiny in Iliad is a problem that has been reviewed from a myriad of approaches. Fate meaning weaving, death, equitable apportionment, more or less fixed sequence of events to occur, abstract force or distinct religious entity. In this paper we consider the possibility that the numerical uses within the poem function as a narrative and symbolic resource announcing the forces of Fate, relating and comparing the concepts of “Number” and “Moira”, while accounting for the asymmetries and symmetries present in the poem.

Keywords : Homer; Iliad; Numerology; Moira; Fate.
