Abstract

ESPEJO, Roberto; ROMO, Verónica  and  HERVIAS, María Luisa. Peer assessment through classroom observation in higher education. An added value in teaching improvement processes as perceived by its participants. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.172, pp.95-110.  Epub Jan 31, 2022. The present study analyzes the perceptions of a group of higher education teachers who participated in a series of teacher improvement processes which included peer assessment in some of their stages. We seek to find out the impact of this evaluation, carried out through peer observations, in their educational practices. In order to do this, we applied the approaches to teaching inventory (ATI) test before and after the improvement process and the peer evaluation. Furthermore, we conducted a series of self-administered semi structured interviews with the participants. The results show that the changes produced by this peer review can be an important contribution towards an effective change in educational practices in higher education, thus inducing better and deeper learning in their students and therefore an overall improvement in the quality of education.
