GUTIERREZ BRAVO, Rodrigo et al. The compared text methodology: a first approach to syntactic variation in yucatec maya. Península [online]. 2025, vol.20, n.2, pp.213-237. Epub 09-Dic-2025. ISSN 1870-5766. https://doi.org/10.22201/cephcis.25942743e.2025.20.2.92050.
In this paper we present the results of an investigation to identify possible areas of syntactic variation in Yucatec Maya. For this purpose, we have developed a new methodology which we call the “compared text methodology.” This methodology consists of taking a base text in the original language and comparing the form and structure of the same sentences that make up the text in different Yucatec-speaking localities. Comparing the same sentences between these different localities, both with the original text and among themselves, we observe important morphosyntactic and syntactic differences, which for the most part have not been previously reported.
