RODRIGUEZ MARTINEZ, Yassir; COLLI TUN, Abrahan  y  DZUL NAH, Julián. Ambivalent Vulnerability and Memorie:COVID-19, Mayan People and Possible Futures. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2025, vol.20, e761.  Epub 02-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2025.v20.761.

This article examines an approach to the vulnerability as an analytical category, moving beyond an impressionistic perspective that considers only certain actors as intrinsically vulnerable. We use the concept of ambivalent vulnerability to explain how the Peninsular Maya People in Mexico collectively faced and resisted the COVID-19 pandemic. Through semi-structured interviews, we accessed their memories and narratives around this event, which allowed us to define three Temporal dimensions -past, present and future- and to recognize how, based on the experience during COVID-19, they envisioned possible futures. We conclude that the notion of ambivalence allows us to acknowledge people’s agency and, in doing so, to regard the «other» as an interlocutor-one who possesses knowledge and the capacity to navigate critical moments.

Palabras llave : social memory; peninsular Mayans; social vulnerability; COVID-19.
