Abstract

ULIANA, Chiara. Early Historical Development of Buyu Analysis. Estud. Asia Áfr. [online]. 2025, vol.60, n.1, e2980.  Epub May 06, 2025. ISSN 2448-654X.  https://doi.org/10.24201/eaa.v60i1.e2980.

This study explores the early historical development of buyu 补语 descriptions, by looking at how early linguists analyzed and described the linguistic elements that today make up the buyu category. This aspect is much debated in current Chinese linguistics research; some authors even consider the term “verbal complements” too restrictive to describe these complex and varied elements. For more advanced studies, conclusions are drawn from the time when the terminology and component internal categories appeared, as well as the authors that described them.

Keywords : Chinese; verbal complements; buyu; grammar; linguistics.
