Abstract
FLORES-RODRIGUEZ, Carlos E.. El mapa fantasma. La epidemia que cambió la ciencia, las ciudades y el mundo moderno. Estud. sociol [online]. 2024, vol.42, e2711. Epub May 19, 2025. ISSN 2448-6442. https://doi.org/10.24201/es.2024v42.e2711.
The history of cities is also the history of their calamities and how they face them. They contain in themselves a testimonial character to understand what is done and signified as a society against disruptive events such as those caused by epidemics. From historiography, this book, which is a by-product of a thesis, uses the city of Victorian London in the face of nineteenth century cholera pandemic as an object of study. Two situations are highlighted: the way in which cultures react to epidemics, and that, in the face of fear or uncertainty -in addition to fleeing- religion and science have been the two natural and univariable answers to face them, which commonly end up being confused which each other.
Keywords : city; pandemic; everyday life; fear; inductivism.
