Abstract
LUAN, Yun. Evaluation of Spanish-Chinese Online Dictionaries through the Application of Lew & Szarowska’s Evaluation Methodology (2017). Andamios [online]. 2024, vol.21, n.54, pp.445-507. Epub Feb 24, 2025. ISSN 2594-1917. https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v21i54.1077.
The current study evaluates six online bilingual dictionaries (Spanish-Chinese and Spanish-English-Chinese), employing Lew and Szarowska’s evaluation methodology (2017) with some modifications. The evaluation results indicate that most of these dictionaries are considered “mostly satisfactory,” with one exception falling within the “unsatisfactory” to “acceptable” range. Recurring issues in the evaluated dictionaries include limited coverage of neologisms and cultural terms, lack of standardization in the tagging system, and unsatisfactory quality of additional information provided. Furthermore, cultural and pragmatic information, as well as multi media or multi modality resources, are found to be less addressed in all the analyzed dictionaries. To address these deficiencies, the study proposes suggestions and development models, and discusses implications for future research.
