HARIHARAN, S.R.; SAKTHI, S.; MAHENDRAN, S. and JAYASUTHAKAR, S.T. Influence of MgO & SiC on mechanical and wear characteristics of AA6061 hybrid matrix composites synthesized by stir casting. J. appl. res. technol [online]. 2023, vol.21, n.2, pp.162-168. Epub Aug 06, 2024. ISSN 2448-6736. https://doi.org/10.22201/icat.24486736e.2023.21.2.1618.
Aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMC’s) have achieved enormous comprehensive acknowledgement for aerospace and structural applications, due to its excellent corrosion resistant, good wear-resistant, high strength and light weight. In this paper, the experimental study deals with investigation influence of reinforcement (magnesium oxide and silicon carbide) particles on various mechanical properties of aluminium alloy (Al 6061). AMMC was fabricated by stir casting method. The Ex-situ method was used to fabricate because of its less complexity. The MMC were prepared with a different weight percentage of reinforcement particles such as 3%, 6% and 9%. After the fabrication, the ingots were machined for preparation of test samples. The tensile, compression, Impact and hardness test were taken to study the mechanical properties and effect of varying weight percentage of reinforcements. As the outcome, the tensile and compression strength were progressively increase with addition of magnesium oxide and silicon carbide.
