Abstract

LOPEZ AGUIRRE, Gonzalo et al. Stump appendicitis. Cir. gen [online]. 2024, vol.46, n.2, pp.114-117.  Epub July 28, 2025. ISSN 1405-0099.  https://doi.org/10.35366/118280.

A case of stump appendicitis in a 9 years old children is presented, he had undergone appendicectomy thirty months earlier. The child was admitted with a 10 days history of abdominal pain, suggestive of an appendicular process. An ultrasound scan and abdominal resonance suggested a collection in the right iliac fossa. A literature review on the subject is provided. A stump appendicitis should be considered as a diagnostic possibility in cases of lower abdominal pain, particularly when there is a history of previous appendectomy. An early diagnostic suspicion can avoid important complications.

Keywords : appendicitis; stump appendicitis; recurrent appendicitis; appendiceal abscess; appendectomy.
