Abstract

SVETLAKOVA, Olga. About the Geminated Hero in Tolstoy and Cervantes.Translated byAnastasia Krutitskaya. Acta poét [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.1, pp.37-55. ISSN 2448-735X.  https://doi.org/10.19130/iifl.ap.2016.1.664.

Following Mikhail Bakhtin's notion of chronotope, the purpose of this essay is to depict a particular configuration of space-time in the Pierre/Andrei geminated image in War and Peace by Tolstoy and compare it to the geminated heroe Sancho/don Quixote in the great masterpiece by Cervantes. In Pierre and Andrei, and also in don Quixote and Sancho, the voice of the entire being, which largely exceeds human and individual condition, as well as the voice of the singular "ego", so distant in its tragic thinking, are correlated and contrasted.

Keywords : Cervantes; Tolstoy; gemined hero; Sancho/don Quixote; Pierre/Andrei; chronotope.
