Abstract

RUBIO GONZALEZ, Juan et al. Tiempo escolar. Una revisión teórica sobre estudios empíricos realizados en centros educativos latinoamericanos. Perfiles educativos [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.164, pp.100-117. ISSN 0185-2698.  https://doi.org/10.22201/iisue.24486167e.2019.164.59071.

The amount of time spent in school is key to educational quality, especially in Latin America given the influence of educational quality and equity problems. This work is a theoretical review of diverse empirical studies on the impact of policies for extended school time and how that resource is managed, conceived of and organized in Latin American schools. Classroom time results are organized on the basis of: a) the degree to which it is lengthened and its relationship to educational improvement; b) the importance it is given; c) its use as a pedagogical resource; d) and as an extracurricular educational resource; e) its organizational value; and f) the methodologies of the studies reviewed. Lastly, it reflects on these results and emphasizes the need to forge ahead with studies of the length of time spent at school time and strengthen understanding of this factor in educational centers based on new educational dimensions, contexts and agents.

Keywords : School time; Education; Empirical studies; Time management; Educational quality; Educational policy.
