Abstract

BUCH SANCHEZ, Esteban  and  SANCHEZ MORENO, Esteban. Analysis and Evaluation of the Social Reintegration Program in the Prison in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Rev. mex. cienc. polít. soc [online]. 2024, vol.69, n.250, pp.205-228.  Epub Apr 07, 2025. ISSN 0185-1918.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fcpys.2448492xe.2024.250.79440.

The problem of violence and organized crime in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, is compounded by the work to eradicate it. Social reintegration does not achieve its objective of reducing recidivism, which continues to increase. As prison is the main institution designated by law for this purpose, this research focuses on this institution in order to evaluate holistically the performance of the prison in its work to mitigate the risk of criminal recidivism. The methodology is based on a qualitative perspective, using biographical interviews with inmates of the State CERESO No. 3 and in-depth interviews with professionals involved in the treatment. Regarding social work, this research makes an invitation to take a position of public advocacy in terms of reintegration policies and prison management to ensure optimal treatment and institutional support to professionals.

Keywords : prison; reintegration; youth; recidivism; Mexico; violence.
