^les^aEl objetivo del artículo es contribuir al estudio de la infancia en la ciudad de México entre 1920 y 1937. Mediante los expedientes del Tribunal para Menores Infractores pretendemos acercarnos a los niños y jóvenes pobres de la ciudad, desglosar su situación social y económica de los menores infractores. En una primera parte del texto se analizan algunas de las instituciones que aparecieron durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX que tenían como propósito resguardar a la infancia desvalida. Al mismo tiempo, describimos cómo estos grupos se apropiaron de estas instituciones, utilizándolas como una estrategia más de sobrevivencia. Se trata de reconstruir el contexto social en el que se desenvolvieron cientos de niños y jóvenes pobres de la ciudad de México, principalmente su situación familiar y su vida en la calle.^len^aThe aim of this paper is to contribute to the study of childhood in Mexico City between 1920 and 1937. Using the Court Records for Juvenile Offenders, the authors seek to analyze the children and young people of the city by exploring the social and economic situation, in this case of juvenile offenders. The first part of the article analyzes some of the institutions that emerged during the early decades of the 20th century that were designed to protect helpless children. At the same time, the author describes how these groups appropriated these institutions, using them as another survival strategy. The aim is to reconstruct the social context in which hundreds of poor children and young people developed in Mexico City, particularly their family situation and life on the street.
