Issue on Organic Chemistry in Celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Revista de la Sociedad Química de México (Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society) 1957-2007

Continuing the celebration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of Revista de la Sociedad Química de México, now renamed as Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society, it is our pleasure to present this issue which is dedicated to organic chemistry. Herein you will find a series of original contributions from the Mexican community consecrated to the research of diverse exciting fields in organic chemistry including natural products, organic synthesis, pericyclic reactions, medicinal chemistry and green chemistry. Some of the particular topics found in this issue are: free radical reactions, transformations of the steroidal skeleton, synthesis of heterocycles, chiral cyanosilylation, efficient oxidation of diverse functional groups attached to aryl rings, and the isolation of some metabolites from natural sources.

We gratefully acknowledge all colleagues who enthusiastically answered the call for papers in order to integrate this thematic issue. We hope that these contributions will give you an overview regarding some of the many interesting subjects cultivated in our academic institutions.

The purpose of this issue, and the previous 2007 issues, is not only to celebrate this anniversary, but also to encourage our colleagues from different areas of chemistry to contribute to the consolidation of a more prestigious journal. In order to achieve this goal, we invite them to propose new thematic issues, to participate in submitting manuscripts with new scientific achievements, and to support your scientific contributions citing papers published in our Journal.
