Abstract

HERNANDEZ-GARRIDO, José M. et al. Repair of femoral vascular trauma secondary to a vascular closure device. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2022, vol.50, n.2, pp.50-55.  Epub Oct 05, 2022. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.21000046.

Background:

Vascular Closure Devices (VCD) are routinely used in endovascular therapy to reduce hemostasis time in the closure of the common femoral artery (CFA) and the superficial artery (SFA). The use of VCD is preferred over manual compression (MC). The most frequent complications are inguinal or retroperitoneal hematoma, obstruction, stenosis, pseudoaneurysm or arteriovenous fistula.

Objective:

To describe two clinical cases, with literature review.

Material and methods:

Report of two cases, one due to a complication in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAV) and the case of lower extremity ischemia in a patient with acute coronary syndrome.

Results:

Hospital discharge without neurovascular complications after surgical vascular repair.

Conclusions:

VCD and the use of open approach in procedures with large caliber vascular access are the safest and most effective methods, however, the best closure method should be individualized according to the needs of the patient and the shortest recovery time.
