Abstract

HERRERA-MARTINEZ, Selene et al. Perioperative management of popliteal artery aneurysms in patients with acute ischemia: Literature review. Rev. mex. angiol. [online]. 2021, vol.49, n.3, pp.88-92.  Epub Oct 25, 2021. ISSN 2696-130X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/rma.21000028.

We conducted a review of published cases of popliteal artery aneurysms from 2004 to 2020, due to a case in our service; we used search terms like popliteal artery aneurysm and distal vessel embolization in PUBMED and OvidSP MEDLINE. Four studies were found with high patency rates with open and endovascular management, with open management, superior outcomes were reported with the open approach. We consider that open repair of a popliteal aneurysm is the gold standard, when it presents with complications such as embolization, which is associated with low perioperative morbidity and mortality; which was confirmed in our patient.

Keywords : Popliteal aneurysm; Distal embolization; Open repair.
