Abstract

AGUINAGA-OROZCO, Ofelia F.  and  MALDONADO-MAGOS, Federico. Mediastinal mature teratoma. Hypofractionated external beam radiotherapy treatment: a case report. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.116-120.  Epub Sep 11, 2023. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.23000142.

Mature teratoma is a benign neoplasm, the standard of care is surgical resection. There is little evidence about treatment with radiotherapy and based on the biological characteristics of the tumor and its response to the old techniques, its use is discouraged. We present the case of a 55-year-old male patient with a two-year history of cough and dysphagia. A diagnosis of mediastinal mature teratoma was integrated by computed tomography and biopsy. It was considered unresectable, thus hypofractionated radiotherapy was administered, presenting partial radiological response, with clinical and functional improvement.
