Abstract

Background:

Gastric subepithelial tumors arise from layers other than the submucosa or extrinsic compression of intra-abdominal structures.

Objective:

To describe a clinical case with symptomatic presentation, managed with resection without preoperative biopsy.

Clinical case:

A 43-year-old female who presents digestive tract bleeding. Panendoscopy with evidence of extrinsic compression. Computed tomography with solid tumor of 7.3 x 5.5 x 6.7 cm. Exploratory laparotomy with partial gastrectomy and Roux-en-Y reconstruction is performed.

Results:

Course favorable evolution, tolerated orally on the 5th day. Histopathological report of gastric schwannoma.

Conclusion:

Patient with gastric schwannoma, favorable evolution, and excellent prognosis after surgical resolution.
