Abstract

ANDA-CORONADO, Alberto de et al. Unusual presentation of gastric adenocarcinoma in pediatric patients: a case report. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.32-35.  Epub Sep 11, 2023. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.22000071.

Malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract are rare in pediatric patients. Gastric adenocarcinoma is extremely rare and represents 0.05% of malignant gastrointestinal tumors. We present the first case of gastric adenocarcinoma in a pediatric patient reported in Mexico. He underwent total gastrectomy + esophageal jejunal anastomosis after receiving neoadjuvant therapy. The patient was discharged with a favorable evolution. Despite the low frequency of these entities, it is the responsibility of the first contact physician to be suspicious, especially in patients with non-specific abdominal pain of long evolution, associated with melena or digestive tract bleeding.
