Abstract

CUESTA, Juan P.; ALBA, Andrea; MORA, Julián  and  BASTIDAS, Nicolás. Imaging characteristics of gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas with a mucinous component: case series. Gac. mex. oncol. [online]. 2023, vol.22, suppl.1, pp.23-27.  Epub Sep 11, 2023. ISSN 2565-005X.  https://doi.org/10.24875/j.gamo.22000094.

Rectal cancer continues to be one of the main causes of death due to oncological pathology. It is important to guide targeted treatment according to the histological subtype, in order to obtain the best therapeutic results and longer survival. Magnetic resonance imaging is the study indicated for tumor staging, follow-up, evaluation of response to treatment and suspicion of the histological subtype prior to the biopsy result, which directly impacts the approach of these patients. We present a case series illustrating the main characteristics of the histological subtypes of gastrointestinal adenocarcinoma by imaging.

Keywords : Mucinous adenocarcinoma; Signet ring cell carcinoma; Rectal cancer; Magnetic resonance imaging.
