Abstract

CARRILLO-ESPER, Raúl  and  TORRE-LEON, Teresa De la. The geriatric patient in the Intensive Care Unit. Are we prepared?. Med. crít. (Col. Mex. Med. Crít.) [online]. 2019, vol.33, n.4, pp.199-203.  Epub July 30, 2021. ISSN 2448-8909.

The aging of the population has increased the demand for healthcare resources. Elderly patients will continue to make up a major portion of patients requiring critical care and will lead to an increasing demand for critical resources. There are discrepant opinions related to admission elderly patient to the intensive care unit. These discrepant opinions may partly explained by the current lack of validated criteria. We must be aware that this age group requires a different approach. The Mexican College of Intensive Care Medicine stared with a related program to face this new challenge.
