Abstract

RODRIGUEZ CANO, Laura. The toponymical register in the Mixteca Baja: The case of the glyphs of the ñuiñe style. Cuicuilco. Rev. cienc. antropol. [online]. 2018, vol.25, n.73, pp.233-253. ISSN 2448-8488.

Place names are a way of naming a territory. The glyphic records of the Late Classic inscriptions, corresponding to the ñuiñe tradition in the northwest region of Oaxaca, are an important sample with regard to the knowledge of the writing system of the Mixteca Baja region. This article presents a review of the study methods used regarding the local writing systems, and in particular, of toponymy in Oaxaca, as well as the practicality of the epigraphic, iconographic and ethno historical tools that led to a reflection on some of the implications unearthed in the study, analysis and understanding of these.

Keywords : Toponymy; Mixteca Baja; ñuiñe; codices; glyphs.
