Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyze the main stylistic features and symbolic values present in Jules Chéret's posters, which are related to the work of the artist Giovanni Tiepolo. The analysis was developed through the iconographic method of Erwin Panofsky (1995), from which the levels of primary or natural significance were taken, taking into account the phatic and expressive functions, which constitute a pre-iconographic description of the elements of the poster; additionally, the secondary or conventional significance was studied for the establishment of the relationship of the artistic motifs and the topics addressed, the concepts manifested in images and allegories present in the works analyzed at the iconographic level; Finally, at the iconological level, the intrinsic significance was obtained through the symbolic values of the poster, finding the relationship between both authors based on two basic concepts: the divine and the mundane.
