Abstract
ESPINA DE LA CRUZ, Estefanía and NOVO, María Luisa. Analysis of geometry presence in Primary School textbooks. Educ. mat. [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.3, pp.85-116. Epub June 15, 2020. ISSN 2448-8089. https://doi.org/10.24844/em3103.04.
In this research, we analyze a sample of 14 textbooks for Primary School in the core area of geometry, used in schools throughout Spain. We use qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research methodology. We designed a specific tool, using the technique of content analysis for the study of geometry. Aspects of the teaching and learning of geometry in Primary School are analyzed with this tool. The results show a lower presence of geometry compared with numerical contexts. Recognition activities of geometric contents predominate. There is a large variety of methodological guidelines offered by textbooks for teaching geometry, which, generally, do not work with one, two and three dimensions from the beginning; psychomotor activities are scarce.
