Abstract

FAJARDO ARAUJO, María del Carmen  and  LARIOS OSORIO, Víctor. Description of mathematical processes in argumentative practices. Educ. mat. [online]. 2019, vol.31, n.3, pp.61-84.  Epub June 15, 2020. ISSN 2448-8089.  https://doi.org/10.24844/em3103.03.

This work is the product of a research project that aims to identify the mathematical processes being implemented by students when they learn to propose demonstrations via the argumentation. The aim of this article is to describe mathematical processes who students of basic education in México made in argumentative practices during resolution of tasks aimed to promote the creation and validation of assumptions in Geometry. The results indicate that there is a trend to use of processes as the disjunctive and expansive generalization with notable deficiencies in the mathematical language that make up the arguments. We propose a series of descriptors for each mathematical process with the intention of identifying levels of development processes involved in mathematical practices.

Keywords : Mathematical processes; Argumentative practices; Descriptors; Validation; Geometrical tasks.
