Abstract

CARDOSO ESPINOSA, Edgar Oliver; CERECEDO MERCADO, María Trinidad  and  RAMOS MENDOZA, José Roberto. Diagnostic evaluation on attitudes toward the mathematics students start their graduate studies in administration. Investig. adm. [online]. 2011, vol.40, n.108, pp.56-68. ISSN 2448-7678.

The objective of this research was to assess the attitudes of students who began their graduate studies in administration to the subject of mathematics. The evaluation study was not a cross-sectional experimental. The three were selected graduate programs taught by MBA National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) with a sample of 95 students. The instrument used was a questionnaire with Likert-type questions. The organization of information is performed using tables and graphs, and the use of statistics to carry out the corresponding analysis. The main conclusions of the research were that graduate students have a negative attitude towards mathematics and learning experiences have been unpleasant in high school and undergraduate level. In addition, students perceive mathematics as a discipline useful but difficult, and expressed an attitude of distrust and anxiety in situations involving the use of mathematical procedures. Finally, we found that men and women who being graduate studies in administration didn´t differ in their level of anxiety when engaging in activities related to mathematics.
