Abstract

SEMPAT ASSADOURIAN, Carlos. The problem of theoretical practice in Marxist historical production. El trimestre econ [online]. 2020, vol.87, n.347, pp.837-856.  Epub Feb 06, 2021. ISSN 2448-718X.  https://doi.org/10.20430/ete.v87i347.1118.

Stagnation in the study of any discipline is a subject of importance, this article reflects on it from a Marxist approach to historiography and political economy. It argues that following conventional historical models to analyze specific regions such as Latin America may constitute a bias in such studies. The author questions what is the historian’s role in understanding a given social, political, and economic context. He explains why the pathways to knowledge are obstructed if one starts from the classics and how is it that research seems immobilized if there are now more tools for intellectual progress.

Keywords : Marxist historiography; Latin America; intellectual progress; idealistic empiricism; political economy; capitalism; materialistic reduction; economic theory of the system.
