Abstract

MILLAN, Henio. Los efectos crecimiento y redistribución: una propuesta metodológica. Ciclo económico y pobreza en México. El trimestre econ [online]. 2014, vol.81, n.323, pp.655-685. ISSN 2448-718X.

Despite being the most popular decomposition methodology of poverty into its effects of redistribution and growth, the Dath-Ravallion method has been a cause of great dissatisfaction due to its inaccuracy and asymmetry. This article proposes an alternative procedure that repairs these failures without calling on inter-annual averages used by other techniques. When applied to Mexico, results satisfied these methodological expectations and discovered the trade-off between both effects, which helps to explain why poverty reduction is so low in the expansion stages of economic cycles, and why income redistribution cushions the impact of crisis, specially the most profound ones, on poverty.

Keywords : descomposición; pobreza; distribución; crecimiento; México.
